Add an input space/field on the canvas and reference in a formula

I am looking to add a blank on the canvas and then use it elsewhere. Here is an example:

Add your name:______

And then I use a button to populate a table with that name. I tried a control value but that needs to reference a column or table somewhere else and doesn’t allow a blank. I could also probably just set up a table with nothing else but that seems tedious.

Am I missing a field type I could use?

I think you are looking for a Text Control; no need to reference anything.
