Beta launch: Subitems

That is my biggest issue as well. That feature is a must have.

@Lars_Kristian_Aasbrenn Please make sure to add this feedback in the feedback form as well :+1:

I concur too… sometimes majority the practical option is just the Group with UI presentation like a subtask. a more neater presentation.

I’ve now applied for the Beta three times, the first one shortly after it was announced. Have yet to see it activated on my account. Filled out the Beta form here but still nothing. Anyone else had this issue?

Has anyone figured out a means of displaying a table with subitems in a timeline view in any reasonably representative way? I’ve tried a few different ways but nothing seems to work.

I’m finding this incredibly frustrating, because if you need timeline views it seems you simply cannot use subitems until they’re added by Coda to the timeline view…or hopefully I’m missing something!?

Hello @Bell_Arden

The best approach I have found is to use grouping. In the timeline, I filtered all rows that have children and grouped the results using a third column.
However, this method is not very scalable since you need to set up a column for every level you want to group. Additionally, the visualization is not ideal when there are leaves at multiple levels.
In my case, every leaf is at level 2. So, for each leaf row, I have two parent levels, as shown in the image below.

This is my timeline view:

And this is my table view with subitems.

Even though “ME1,” “Reuniões,” and “Macroentrega ME1” are rows in the table, I filtered them out in the timeline visualization. I also have two columns that calculate the level 0 parent and level 1 parent, which are then used for grouping.

Best regards,
Arnhold

Thank @Felipe_Arnhold - This was basically where I arrived at - you can get it to work only if you only display items on the lowest level, which is what we already have with sub-tables, and thus severely limits the utility of sub-items if you need timeline views.

@Sam_Harper - Can you shed any light on subitems in the timeline view?

Hi Bell,

I’m Kathy, and I’ll be managing the subitems beta for the next few weeks as Sam is currently out.

Our team is actively working on supporting subitems in timeline views, ensuring that parents and subitems display in their proper hierarchy! This is expected to roll out in beta in the coming weeks. I’ll update this thread once it’s live. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to hearing more!

Cheers,
Kathy

Great to hear that’s on the list.
Any chance you’d enable sequential entries for that matter in the timeline view?
The hierarchical view of subitems will increase vertical space and vertical scrolling in the timeline even more

Bummed I missed the beta - any rough timeline for the full launch?

Hey @Kathy_Pan

Wow that’s great news, thank you!!

The layout looks great and presents exactly as I’d expect/hope.

There does seem to be a bug where the dependency links between items/rows aren’t showing. They are working, but the line is now being displayed. Hoping that’s a quick fix for the devs.

Thanks @Bell_Arden ! Would you mind filing that bug here along with a screenshot of what you’re seeing so we can investigate? Thanks!

It looks like in subtables it does not show the parent-subitems relationships. Unless this is something that needs to be activated manually?

I am facing the same issue.

To me, it seems that the dependency lines are misaligned, as if the parent rows are not being considered when calculating their positions.
I already submited the feedback with an image

EDIT:

I just noticed that this issue only occurs when the subitems are collapsed. If all subitems are expanded, the lines display correctly. With every collapse, the dependency lines shift vertically.
