Problem:
I have related tables named Deliverables, Projects, and Customers. In the source document, the Deliverables table is configured so that in the “Project” dropdown list, only the projects associated with the same customer are selectable (the dropdown list is filtered accordingly).
However, when I use Cross Doc to import the Deliverables table into another document prepared for a client, the “Project” dropdown list shows all projects, not just the filtered ones related to the specific customer. The filter from the source document does not carry over.
This behavior drastically limits the cross-doc functionality, because the client can see projects that are not relevant to them. I cannot use this feature without compromising data confidentiality. Alternatively, I am forced to look for complex workarounds, which reduces efficiency.
Additional Issue:
If the dropdown list references other tables, there is a potential workaround: I can create a duplicate project field and make it formula-based so that the dropdown list does not function interactively but serves as an indicator. However, this approach is not feasible when dealing with parent-child relationships.
If I enable nesting for my Deliverables list, the client in their Cross Doc document can see all Deliverables across different projects in the parent/child field, not just the ones associated with their project. This makes it impossible to use the task hierarchy functionality safely in a client-facing document.
Expected Behavior:
When using Cross Doc, the dropdown list should retain the filtering settings from the source document, ensuring that only the relevant, filtered items are shown.
Impact:
This issue makes it impossible to use Cross Doc dropdowns and task hierarchies in client-facing documents due to data exposure risks. Fixing this problem would greatly enhance usability and maintain data security.
I think my use case is fairly typical: I am delivering results to multiple customers as a contractor, and I want my personal doc to be the single hub with several customer-facing docs that filter out some portion of the source.
