Large amounts of text make pages laggy

Hi, we tried importing a large 43 page / 11023 word script into coda, as to not use google docs.

But with this much text, coda becomes quite laggy, and not really usable.

It should not be my PC, since I have a top of the line system.

Will coda ever be able to handle large amounts of text and still be snappy like google docs?

hi @Fimbi_SJ ,

did you put the 43 pages (11K words) on one page or did you distribute them over various pages (for example per chapter)?

I indeed had to resort to spreading it out into chapters/pages, but i’m asking because it would be more ideal to have the entire script on a single page just like in google docs.

And even now with it split into 2 pages the performance is not as snappy as google docs.

Is page performance for large amounts of text a priority in any way, or is this just not the intended purpose of coda?

maybe splitting it up over even more pages makes the doc faster
coda is not about penalizing you for putting data on a page. A lot of attention has been paid to table performance and formula optimalisation (for example, behind what you see your long formulas get broken up into parts and handled bit by bit to get a good execution time). I am not aware on how a large volume of text is handled on pages.

Maybe a Codan can chime in and put some light on the matter, cheers, Christiaan

Hi ,

Is the performance laggy during initial load, or during general use of the doc?

Coda loads the full doc into your browser memory upon initial load.

Well pasting it in takes a few seconds, but even after waiting a while, the page is just slow.

Just hitting enter to start a new line has a slight delay.

Even typing feels like its slightly delayed.

I’m also getting random micro stutters and freezes here and there.

While on pages with less text it feels snappy and fast.

It would not be impossible to use, but when working with large scripts it’s not ideal.

It will indeed make it faster, but it’s not ideal. I don’t use formulas, it’s just a very long script with some tables at the start.
