Push table filter changes to connected views?

Is it possible to show a connected view of a table that automatically updates its design from the primary table?

If I make changes to a primary table then in some cases I’d like the connected views of that table to update so that I don’t have to go to each connected view’s filters just to show a column.

This is fine when there is just a few connected views of a table but it becomes a lot of work when there are a dozen.

Is this something that I can do in Coda or is this a feature that doesn’t exist?

Maybe I’m describing something similar to a form template but for a table?

Hello @Sarah_Zwier ,

Any view of a table is designed to show a specific set of columns (can be one column to all columns) and/or filter data as per the filter you add to the table.

By definition, if you change the structure of a base table, there is no way for Coda to ‘know’ that you want the view to show or not show these changes.

So the short answer is: views are not updates automatically when the structure of your base table changes. The only exception is that deleting columns in your base table will be reflected in your views (they will be deleted in your views as well).

Don’t confuse deleting with hiding though.

Greetings,
Joost

Is there any way to view a table without creating an editable additional view then? Shouldn’t that be an option when copying and pasting a table?

You can copy a table to a page and then set the locking options for that page to not allow any editing for the tables/views on that page.

Some people might suggest table locking, but that is off or on for the base table and all of it’s views, which is usually pretty inconvenient. But it is an option.
