16 improvements that make Coda simpler and more flexible

This article explains the display column: What is the display column? | Coda Help Center

If you just want to reference other column in your formula, you can chain info with a period.

For example, say you had a full-name column in the Admin Heft relation. To display that, you’d say

[Admin Heft].Full-Name

Is it possible to view/update column descriptions using the API? Or are there other methods to do so using formulas or existing coda features?

We’re going through the process of updating 100ish columns with custom descriptions. In most cases they’ll remain static, but in others, we’ll need to make adjustments over time. It would be helpful if we could view that information in one place and reduce management overhead.

Column descriptions: Add a text description to a column, letting you keep track of the column’s intended purpose and provide necessary context for your collaborators.

Great features! Several are ones I have been looking for the past few days so this was very timely!

We’ve made some additional design changes recently that I think you’ll be excited about, this time for table groups! You’ll notice the following improvements to grouping:

  • When you pin a group, you’ll now see a helpful icon and tooltip on hover
  • The chevrons used to collapse/uncollapse a group have gotten a visual refresh to be more obvious and consistent across the product
  • Clicking anywhere on a collapsed group will now expand it
  • The right-click context menu for groups is re-ordered to be easier to parse

I went here exactly to check if I was hallucinating but I knew something was different. Love this update!!!

I love everything about this update except the new arrow. It’s not really 2023. The previous one was better.

One bug though, if you click on it and you don’t change any data it asked you if you wish to modify all rows or only visible one. It should just not have any pop up if nothing has changed.

Glad to see Groups are getting some enhancements. One thing I’ve noticed (that may have always been the case): Is it possible to allow users to still expand and collapse groups when “change table values” is turned off in the locking settings? I still don’t want users to be able to edit values, but I’d like them to be able to see all values if the groups are initially collapsed.

^This follows along my wish for an associated option to still allow users to resize table column widths when the table is locked down - sometimes you just want to “pull up” that one word at the end to make the the table row take up less height!
