How to save an image from a URL?

Hey there,

I’m running a small table where we collect links and do stuff with it in coda. We also have image URLs for every link. Instead of storing these URLs I would love to store the image behind the URL. What would be the easiest way to fetch the image and store it into an image field?

I have checked automations but I can’t find a way to do it. I’m sure it’s there - it’s just so usual I guess. It’s most likely me just not knowing Coda enough yet.

Can anyone help?

Frank

Hey Helmi
If I understood you correctly then its really simply.
Just configure the column where you add the link for those images as “Image UR” (You´´ll find it in under the “Image” column section) and like this the columns will present the image automatically.
If on the other hand you are afraid that at some point the image won´t be available then I guess a simple “save picture as” and then upload it to a image column

Hi @Helmi,

please take a look into the following topic:

Well I know that the Image URL displays the image but that’s just not working well for images that are loading slowly and where I also don’t want to pull the image everytime I scroll through or load the table. The image isn’t cached anywhere on Coda or my browser appropriately so this is not a good solution.

I know I can download the image myself but i’m trying to fully automate this and just have images shown in coda reliably and fast.

Thanks for pointing this out, @Jannis

Unfortunatelyl this only seems to work more or less manually as well. It works when I used a button as in the example and clicked every row but still then somehow coda seems to mess it up at some point. After doing a few rows manually and successfully it failed on the next one and also deleted images in previous rows. Not sure why.

Also it doesn’t seem to work in an automation.

Maybe I really need to go the way through creating a pack to have it done more reliably.
