To anyone finding this old topic:

1. The approach in the original post doesn’t work anymore. Editor was updated and the data structure that describes a text field / canvas is now different.

2. This is the new way of e.g. extracting checked/unchecked items from a text field or a canvas column:

P.S. Here you go. Note that I’m not doing anything cool with indenting. E.g. if you have nested checklist items, it will not smartly resolve incomplete parent items or such. It will simply filter for lines that are checked/unchecked and combine those together:
