+1 on that use case!
Your OP only mentioned doc size, didn’t say anything about API calls.
The guideline to keep the doc count and table low count is just that, a guideline not anything cast in concrete.
Most people come from a word or spreadsheet environment, and carry those habits into Coda. But my advise has always been, keep those counts low, EXPERIMENT, and settle on what works for your circumstances.
But, it’s just a ramble,
Rambling Pete
@Eva_Folch, @Jorge_Pineda—I’m glad you’re excited as we are and I can confirm we’re actively working on it (it’s not released yet).
We’ll share more as we have updates, thank you!
Hi Lane,
Once again, thanks for the info, it has created a really positive vibe.
Can you mention anything about Coda on mobile? A lot of people are asking questions about it as well.
Thanks
Piet
Hey can you fix the mobile login with Firefox browser on Android? Never worked for me, while it says it is supported on your website.
The biggest UI problem I have is when collaborating with a team of people. I often want them to use the published version to interact with buttons, fields, etc of the doc so they won’t accidentally make edits to pages. But almost everyone access my docs through their coda workspace, which takes the to the edit version of the doc. Would really, really love more granular control of what can be edited by whom.
Hello @Bjorn_Hansell ,
With all the page locking options that are already available, you can minimize the risk of the team accidentally changing things on your pages (or editing base tables). Obviously you have to set it up properly, but it is not a lot of work to set it up, not even for big dogs, once you understand how you can use the settings for all pages (and then make exceptions for some pages).
It requires a team subscription, but in my opinion it is very much worth it.
Greetings,
Joost
This is a great discussion string and it mentions a lot of interesting enhancements. However, and I hate to be a drag, but are there any timelines for when these features will be introduced into production? Over the years, we have heard a lot about upcoming features but haven’t actually seen many make it to production… or production introductions were significantly scaled back from the vision.
I’m guessing I am not the only individual that has budgeting cycles wherein these types of future-state features are key points of discussion.
Small feature i would like to see: Smarter Date Grouping in Charts!
It would be super helpful to have an easy way to group data by day, week, or month just by selecting it from a dropdown or toggle—no need to create extra columns manually.
Right now, especially when trying to group by week, things get messy and time-consuming.
Example:
If I want to see yearly sales by month, I should be able to just select “Group by Month” instead of wrangling the data first. Simple, right?
This small improvement would save tons of time and make Charts way more intuitive and user-friendly!
Thanks for considering!
Thanks for being awesome Coda!
Some things which would take Coda to the next level for us, in order of priority
Forms upgrade:
- Conditional/branching logic
- Design flexibility for published forms
- Redirect on submission
- Downloadable PDF/reports based on form submission
E-signature functionality:
- Perhaps this links to the forms upgrade as it’s effectively a form over a contract?
- Could be a riff on Edit Images Pack, extend Coda with Edit Images - Coda / [MEGA TRICK] 🖼️ Edit and Combine Images Right in Coda!
Published Doc Design:
- It’d be a dream if I could make websites with a coda backend, that are customisable and somewhere inline with modern web design.
- A drag and drop interface would be crazy cool, and if the web was built on coda, I’m sure you’d get more users
The above 3 are all instances where Coda could be gently promoted to potential new users, exposing the awesomeness of Coda to others in a flywheel/viral process. At the moment, I’m sharing forms on different platforms, using a different platform for signing contracts, and making websites. Eyeballs that are on other platforms - would be happy to get them on Coda!
Other things:
Mobile Version:
- General upgrades to functionality as this is limited (creating tables, etc)
- Offline operation
Native AI integrations:
- Popular ones, as well as private hosted instances
Thank you!
Many thanks for sharing your scenario, @Sonny_S1!
It’s similar to what we hear from other customers like @AJM, @Nick_HE and others.
Yes you can—specifically, I’d call out:
- As Lane shared below, we do plan to make substantial changes to allow for even greater scale of your data in docs.
- You mentioned it is important to not jeopardise loading or using the doc for scale. We agree and that’s why part of our plans include only loading the data you need, so your doc stays fast—please see my earlier reply for more details.
We just released a performance update to the APIs to reduce latency. In our testing, overall we saw ~10x reduction in latency and in a few specific case much more.
If you’re seeing reliability issues, please share more details with us support@coda.io, so we can take a deeper look at what might be going on.
Oh wow, that’s great to hear on the API latency. When you say latency, do you mean how long the API server takes to respond to a request, or how long a change to the document (whether via UI or API write) is available to an API read?
The former—how long it takes the server to respond to a request, so the AP responds much faster.
Hi @Lane-Shackleton !
Great to see this post and your leadership by example to engage the community - thank you!
I did see a sub reference to an update on Sync Page Access Control. Not sure if I missed more on that but it would be great for the community to know where it now falls on the priority list and if @Ayuba_Audu will get any extra resource to accelerate this and / or when Step 4 will get into testing / ship etc…
Thank you as always for the great work and congratulations on the recent fundraise!
Is there any plan to allow us to still use the api even after a doc reaches 125 mb? Because that’s a huge barrier right now.
Yes—while it won’t be no limits, it’ll create the opportunity for us to go beyond the current limit of 125 MB for this specific scenario.
Hi Codans
Thank you, I really appreciate all the detailed updates, and especially that most of these are all focussed on making significant improvements to the core functionality that makes Coda the great product it is.
I personally prefer the before option. I don’t like having to look for my options.
Yeah, I’m a student and am limited to the pro subscription, unfortunately.
Any plans in increasing the credits per months for the AI? The Pro’s allotment of 2000 credits is a chump changes in just few days of serious workload Sure there’s $12 addon for unlimited AI but that would be more expensive than a Business plan in Notion.
