Apply column formula only for certain rows

It’ll often happen that I have a column where I would like the value to be set by a formula for some rows, and by hand for others. In this example, if the end of contract date is passed, I know for sure the person is not available, but if the date is not passed, it could be either. So I would like the formula of the column Available to be something like: if End of Contract < Today(), then false, otherwise let me choose.

Hey there!

Columns are always either a formula or not. There is no real inbetween.

If you want to override a formula value in a column, this is the best UX in my opinion:
