Hi Lear,
Sounds like my first example was too involved. Here is a simpler version.

there are a bunch of packs for chat-like features (zoom chat, etc), but i think they are all just notifications and not true embedded integrations. the search continues. do you need the chat to be linked directly to docs or just side by side?
I’d love to move my team from Slack into Coda and having our team comms in two places is not great, but there a couple major issues in the way of doing that:
Hi Piet, that looks really useful! I have been working with a tiered system right now of Goals → projects → collections → tasks to manage personal and client projects but im looking for a better way to communicate on tasks and projects with a team and this system sound like a great implementation. Thanks for sharing!
Integrated video calls could be awesome. Miro has this feature where everyones video is a small element on the screen and you can drag and place the videos anywhere. This creates a really cool interactive session focusing on that particular Miro board. That could be an interesting experience within a coda doc, it makes you feel like you are in a meeting room together rather than just making a call from your home office or other workplace.
Coda has a really strong integration with Zoom.
Hey Piet,
Cool implementation, now i understand what you meant. It’s similar to what i created i believe.
The roadblock for me however is that it doesn’t feel intuitive or casual like a regular messager with groups.
I think probably the closest thing would be to have a row in a table as the “Channel”, and the comments inside of it are the discussions, but it’s still not super efficient.
PS: Loved the pun haha
I want my team to deal with as few separate tools as possible. It’s a nuisance to deal with notifications from coda, slack and emails, and user reviews, etc. Having it inside coda would be the ultimate goal to having one source of truth, cause i want everything in one place.
I used Clickup in the past (they have a chat) but they were too limited for us where coda isn’t.
Hey Bell thanks for joining the conversation!
I’m honestly shocked to hear about that notification limit, seems like a waste. I agree with everything you said. The notification page of Coda & the comments dearly need to be ironed out. It’s one of the things in coda that works, but i cringe every time i use it because it could be just so much better. The UX of the comments definitely needs some help.
I’ll check it out, thanks.
I love that Miro feature!
However I think the main power of having meetings in coda would be doing what coda does best, and turning that meeting into data as i’ve outlined in my initial description.
Have you considered having a column for the channel/ groups?
You can then filter on that column, even have views on different pages. That is what is so great about Coda - you pay around until something clicks in to planne.
I’ve thought of it, and we could use the regular comments as a chat. The problem is that it’s not fully intuitive, and i haven’t found a solution for direct messages yet.

What did you end up doing?
