Hi Everyone,
I am relatively new to Coda. I have a requirement to setup a Table for the data that contains following hierarchy:
TG (Topic Grp) → Modules → Topic L1 → Topic L2 ->Questions → Answers (Could be multiple Answers for the same question - brief version or with case study, etc)
I have created a"Main Table", where I used Coda’s Group functionality to implement the hierarchy mapping from TG to Topic L2. In order to map Topic L2 to Questions & nest each Question multiple Answers (captured at various levels of maturity & target audience), I am trying to use Subitems functionality. Please refer to the page below. I have following questions:
Q1- Is this the right approach & structure to capture data for this requirement, are there more efficient approaches?
Q2-How can I ensure that the individual Questions & their Answers reside in proper Table Database that gets updated when I add or update it from my Main Table?
Q3-At present the Page View (which is set at Topic L2 Level) does not display the Questions as Subitems or their Answers. How can I make it so?
I really appreciate any guidance you can provide in this matter. Please refer to my Coda page with the link below:
Best,

Thank you for sharing your doc.. but to be honest I don’t even know where to start in there
Nevertheless, will answer to the best of my abilities without doc context…
yes. Believe your approach is best approach and how coda intended for subitems to be used.
If you want your Q&As to be nested with your topics & modules etc, you can consider “one big table” approach. But note this gets unwieldy fast and may hit coda constraints much sooner (row limitations, performance issues)
Relations only work by “relating” rows. If planning on working directly with table/spreadsheet view, then any hierarchical work to be performed is best on the other side e.g. your Q&A table and not your main table.
But if want to take a multiple step approach within table view some suggestions would be
A. Click on the individual chips in relation column to open modal and then edit there.
B. via modal (expanding double arrow on furtherest left of table), then maybe use detail view (note has to be linked relation for this to work) where you can allocate the parent etc
Can i please clarify what your definition of Page View is? Is that the modal view? I.e. expanding double arrow of left of table.
Subitems does not currently work in modal (only on canvas and just very recently cross doc tables).
So best way would be as explained in Q2.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Best Regards,
