Is it possible to extract website description/name from a link

I’m working on Bookmarks Management System in coda.

I found a very cool pack that can get the favicon of any website, all you have to do is provide a link.

But is there any way to automatically extract the website description and name?

Since this is already available in different link views, my guess is that it’s possible:

Here’s a doc link so you don’t have to start from scratch if you have a solution.

It would be very beneficiary to be able to do this (big time saver) automatically.

I’m sure a name can be somehow extracted from the link itself with few functions inside a formula, but descriptions are what I’m even more interested in. It would be very useful to have descriptions of every bookmark because it would be easier to search for bookmarks.

And if there is no way to do this without a pack, maybe this is a good feature @Eric_Koleda would be kind enough to implement into the Favicons - Website Icons pack :pray:.

Another idea

Since I have two ways to add bookmarks to my Bookmarks Management System:

  1. Inside the doc
  2. Using the Coda Browser Extension:

The optional ability to be able to add website description to a column would be awesome as well.
Please vote for the feature here :point_left:.

Hey Fran, thanks for your feedback! I think we just grab the website’s metadata. We can track this as a feature request, but it’d probably be more easily implemented as a pack though.

@Fran_Vidicek - I’m glad you liked my Favicons Pack! I’ve been toiling away in my workshop and I’m happy to say I’ve got a new Pack ready just in time for the holidays:

It should be just want you wished for, so give it a try and let me know if you have any feedback.
