And so it would be great to have the preference to have spacing before text paragraphs, on a page-by-page basis, in the same way that we can choose font style and size.
For example, if copy text from the web (or another source) and paste it into Coda. all the paragraphs run together into one long, indistinguishable block of text. Sure I can go in and add an extra line between each one, but that’s a hassle. Ashley’s screenshot gives a good view of the problem.
Having it as a preference accommodates multiple use cases.
Yes, you’re correct. And this is more of a copy/paste issue that we can look into solving.
As for the additional styling features, we hope to keep increasing what you can do with Coda, but we do have to weigh how much is added for various styling options and see if that takes away from the other things that Coda is pushing to accomplish. We definitely want to rival other dedicated systems out there, like word processors, but the real strength of Coda is that we aren’t strictly a word processor, we can do a heck of a lot more.
We’ll be aiming to improve here, just not sure what things will become dedicated settings.
I found that if I convert the pasted block type from “Text” to “Bulleted text” that Coda inserts space before each block (paragraph), making it much more readable.
It’d be nice to have the option for the same treatment for non-bulleted paragraphs.
Hey all. Cross-posting here from another thread. I also struggle with the spacing in Coda, and often get the feeling that it looks clunky. For that reason, I continue to use Google docs for writing documents.
In particular:
There is more space above a H1 than a H2, which is what I would expect. However, there is actually less space above a H2 than a H3, which is counter-intuitive and looks off.
It’s a bit cumbersome to have to manually add space before headings.
If you write a doc with a mix of continuous prose and bullets, it looks strange as the bullets have more line-spacing than the prose.
If you end a section with bullets and then start a new section with a heading, there is more space than when you end a section with continuous prose.
It seems really disappointing to add a line break between paragraphs so there can be a space between paragraphs and headings. Surely a little change to the CSS could fix this very quickly? Or, perhaps give your users the opportunity to use their own CSS?
I very much agree with the sentiment of the discussion and particularly agree the explanation illustrated by the @Ashley_Creighton post (thanks Ashley).
It would be great if you could change the font size of specific sections or text. The headings are nice, but limiting, and always add extra space above the text.
