Open link in same window from embedded page or sync page

I’ve got an embedded page which has links to several pages in my doc filtered based on what pages the current user should be allowed to see.

The problem is when the user clicks on the link, it opens a new tab. Many of my users have poor internet, so opening a new tab and loading up the whole coda JS bundle and content can take 2-3s which massively hampers the flow. If it opened in the same tab, it might only take a few milliseconds.

Is there a way I can get a link from an embedded page to open in the same tab?
