Outline in a canvas

Hi,
I’m keeping my team documentation organized in a table where each row is a document.
It allows me to add information with each document, like author, document status, type of document etc.
The core of each document is stored in a canvas.

It seems however that in coda, canvas don’t have the same capabilities as normal pages (it’s different than Notion, where every entry is a page itself). In particular I’d like to be able to display an outline of the document, but the option in not available.

Is this a feature available, in development, or is there a way to to it differently (like generating the outline with a formula in the canvas) ?

hi @Mathieu_Babel1 , welcome to the community and thanks for the question. Can you elaborate on it, what do you mean exactly when you write?

By outline, I mean the table of content that can be automatically added to a page.

I’d like to be able to have a table of content in a canvas.

Okay, I understand now. So, for the moment, this is only possible for standard pages and not yet for canvas pages used within a table. I hadn’t thought of that, but it’s a logical request if you consider canvas pages to be the functional equivalent of standard ones.

There are no formulas that are of any help in this context.

Is this a feature that could be added at some point ?
I’m quite sure a lot of people are using the table’s power as document database. For a large document dataset, which comes quickly even in medium organisation like mine, it makes much more sens than using a collection of pages and subpages.

hi @Mathieu_Babel1 ,

Coda promoted - for good reasons - the canvas column as an alternative for the classial pages and sub page logic and logically that should be followed by the outline feature as you described.

you can add your suggestion here in the suggestion box to raise awareness for the issue and allow people to vote for it.
