European numbers formatting

I have problems with the displaying of numbers in a european format.
Part 1:
I use the Google Maps Pack to set start and destination and get out a distance in km, but always with three digits after the comma: 509,347
If I try to use the formula “round”, it changes the value to 509347, no matter how many places I use after the comma.
Part 2:
If I try to sum up distances, the output looks simply wrong

Is there no setting to use a format 1.017,375 ? or without the thousands divider like 1017,375
I don’t get it. I know, that there is a high demand for a correct fomatting in a european style for years now. Every other spreadsheet app I know is able to display such formats - except Coda. Why? Honestly I feel no desire to use some extra formulas only to get out a simple non-US format. It is really hard to explain to a european Coda user, why he’s not allowed to use the comma like he’s using it in every other program.

Hi Matthias,

I really get the frustration. At the moment displaying numbers in not-US format takes some work-arounds and even more if you want to somehow digest them.

But they seem to be working on it at the moment at least!

Yes, I saw - and I already use - the new date and time format. And I am thankful for it.
What I don’t understand is the philosophy behind. Coda as a company wants users worldwide. But to reach that goal the most basic precondition is the correct time and numbers display, regarding to the users region. This is absolutely basic. I don’t understand, why Coda negelcts such basic settings, forcing users to workarounds, while developing new features all the time which are often demanded by a smaller group of users/developers. I understand, that Coda needs to prioritize the development of features. But I get the feeling, that the Coda developers don’t understand the importance of such basic features. They are based in the US - they have their common time and numbers format already realized. hey don’t need anything changed.

The specific post I linked is not about date formats, but number formats. There they shared some of the challenges they face with this feature, which is not as simple as it may seem from the outside. But as I said, they collected feedback and hopefully they will come up with a solution soon!
