How do I create a bar chart where individual bars represent sums or averages over a time range?

I have a table of expenses with the format (Date, Type, Amount)
I would like to have a bar chart that displays the sum of the expenses over a time period, such as a Month or a Year. How do I do this in Coda?

In the view “Expenses by Category” I changed the chart type to “bar chart”.
