How to add conditional formatting to Dates Grouped Vertically?

Hi Team, I love using conditional formatting on ‘Horizonal Group by’ but unfortunately it appears conditional formatting doesnt work on Dates.

I have found a visual workaround and the result looks like this:

However this workaround has the following disadvantages

• Requires an extra table
• Requires an extra formula
• Results in a weird user experience when dragging cards from one column to the next. For example:
  
  

Anyone know how to just change the date colours? This would solve a heap of overhead.

I do have some conditional rules for the colour of the cards. But that is not relevant here.

In order the get Overdue, Today and Future to be coloured Created a relation column to a database and then format the display column of that database.
You can also use select columns (But if you put a formula on that column you can not then control what color each select option is.)

As mentioned this work around is clunky and I would welcome the ability to just add conditional formatting to the Date Horizontal Group
