How to create subsections

I’m not sure if it’s possible but I didn’t manage to find a way to do it. Our documents are growing and the team is looking on how to organize things, the problem is that there seems to be no possibility to create subsections.

Hello @Adria! Unfortunately you cannot create subsections.
What you can do instead are Folders, they are even collapsible!

Yes, sorry I meant subfolders :frowning:

Is it possible to create subfolders?

No, it is not yet possible.

This has been a big request and the team has been hard at work on a solution. We’re ready for Beta testers if you want to give it a try!

Ben, this isnt solved

Hey @June_Parent1 can you tell me a little more about what you’re trying to do? We do support folders now, which is the recommended way of organizing your docs!

@Jasmine_B - They’re referring to having sub-folders for organizing coda docs (as opposed to sub-pages)

Ah. That’s not something we support right now but happy to file this feature request for you @June_Parent1! You’ll be notified if this gets built out.

Could you notify me as well when there is the possibility to creat subfolders like for example in One Drive etc. Thanks in advance, Kind Regards Jasper Hermans Hawaiian Poké Bowl

Hi Jasper,

Coda has provided something even better than sub-folders: A pack called Coda Doc List.

It will automatically maintain a list of all your documents, with their Workspaces and top folders.
Shown in grey columns below.
It pulls in some other data about the docs as well, name, date created, created by, a hyperlink to the doc, etc.
The BIG advantage comes in that you can add as many subfolder columns as you want. In the example, the column Sub-Folder/Tag 1 is a multi select list, which means that a doc can belong to more than one folder if necessary. A huge drawback of traditional hierarchical folder/ subfolder structures are that they are, well, hierarchical. And very little of our information fits into a hierarchical structure.
With this approach you can add a column for teams, with all the various teams in your organisation. Alternatively you could add a column for Customer, and list all your customers. Now you have the freedom to sort and search by customer, team, both, or on any other column that you add.
Finally, you can add a comments column that can a short description of what is in the doc, the target audience, etc, etc.

It’s just a ramble,
Rambling Pete

And how do I properly activate / launch this pack for one workspace? We want to built a structure that contains a ''folder" for each department. I see the result & understand the logic but i can’t find how I actually have to implement Coda Doc List because i’ve to add it to a single doc…

Yes, you create a single new doc for this pack, and this doc contains ONLY the pack table.

Once you have refreshed the pack, you will have a list of all your docs in a table. And then it is just like any other table - you can add columns, sort and search on them; and then build views: One for the marketing team, another for the finance team, etc.

This new single doc, starts with your existing workspace and folder columns, but allows you to further expand the structure in flexible ways to suit your requirements.

Piet
