How to Share Information with Clients?

Hello everyone here.
My first post in this community.

I’ve been exploring Coda for a couple of months now, and I’m really excited about its capabilities.
Previously, I used ClickUp for nearly 5 years, but its limited customization and lookup features have made me want to migrate to Coda.

However, I’ve realized that one of Coda’s drawbacks is how pages are shared and how permissions work.

I’m currently facing a situation where I can’t figure out a simple solution for sharing information with clients.
Previously in ClickUp, I used tasks where additional work photos and descriptions were added as comments, and the extra cost calculations were included in the task description. Once all data was ready, I clicked a button, and the client received an email with the extra cost calculation and a public task link. By clicking the link, they could see all the photos, calculations, and all additional work submitted for that particular project. (It was a public link visible to anyone who had the link.)

How can I solve this kind of setup in Coda? It’s important that the client doesn’t need to create an account or log in anywhere.

Does anyone have ideas to share or maybe a sample document?

I do not have anything to show as I am investigating this as well for doing some online proofs of articles for clients and allowing them to upload company photos. The only suggestion I found so far that might work for me is to:

  1. Create a folder called ‘Clients’
  2. Create a separate Doc for each client with their company name as the Doc name
  3. Add any information I need to share with the client in their individual Doc
  4. Change permissions for that Doc to allow anyone with the link to Edit it*
  5. Share the individual client’s Doc link only with them so they can edit or upload files

This method is cumbersome but will make sure that each client only sees their own information and no one else’s since permissions are Doc-based.

I may want to connect these in some way to a table in another Doc and sync them but since there will be so many docs, it probably won’t be possible. I will probably just have to make notes manually in my other Doc as to what transpired in the client consultation regarding the proof.

*I can’t find a way to have all Docs created or duplicated inside one folder to default to the permissions I want so I will have to do this for each Doc. I fear I may forget at times which will mean I will be sending them a link they can view but won’t be able to edit. Then they will be frustrated and will need to contact me to fix the permissions.

Hi @Cari ,

I agree with most of your post, but this is not correct

You can use Cross-Docs to sync tables from different docs. It’s not perfect but it gets the job done for many use-cases.

You can at least partially automate the duplication/sharing of docs and the permissions with packs like Doc Explorer Pack, extend Coda with Doc Explorer - Coda

Hope this helps,

Pablo
