Launched: Custom icons

Great update! I am especially excited about dedicated Icons folder in our main Coda navigation.

Very welcome feature, thank you! Just found the icon library, which is great!

Folders will be great there for better organization

I uploaded a custom icon, tried to save it, and got ‘name: invalid’ as an error message. Tried different naming formats, but no luck. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi @D_Reid, we’d like to look into this. Let me send you a DM to find out more.

@discobot (I’ll delete this asap)

Actually, could someone delete this for me? (sorry)

Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help.

This update is great, but I’ve lost the ability to see previously used icons from my doc. This was super helpful for quickly assigning frequently used icons (e.g.,
image
for backend table pages)

It would also be great to have more diverse options for people icons (different colours for hands, faces, bodies, etc).

I submitted this bug to Coda earlier this week, and it’s been escalated to the engineers. Haven’t heard back yet.

We’ve also lost the ability to duplicate columns or add formulas to a column from within a row modal view. May not be related to the icon update though…

This is great! Cheers to all!

Any chance we’ll eventually be able to edit the uploaded icon names? I have no faith in other contributors’ ability to appropriately name the icons for ease of search and without the ability to change it at an admin level, I see myself deleting and re-uploading a lot of icons with proper names in my future.

Hmmm, I also submitted a report and haven’t heard back, but it at least looks like the table toggle issue is fixed!

I haven’t experienced the other issues you mentioned, but hopefully those can be figured out soon!

The group of frequently used icons have unfortunately disappeared. It would be very helpful if this came back!

Agree 100%!!! Please bring back the frequently used icon menu.

Suggestion: Why not provide a tab with favorites (from default and custom icons)?

the guidelines say any square image preferably with a transparent background (tho svg dont work).

but what is the “ideal size” for a custom icon. i dont want to manage images that are more detailed than necessary. i know icons are displayed in several sizes in the UI, but what is the best size to upload that has “just enough” resolution to look good and no more?

We’re so glad you all have been enjoying using custom icons and definitely hear you on these usability improvements. We want to share that we’ve added support for SVGs today and we’ll be bringing back a way for you to easily see other icons used in your doc soon - keep an eye out!

All the updates today have got me feeling spoiled… Thank you guys!

Great call out! We suggest using images that are 128x128 pixels, and we resize anything larger. We’ll be adding this to our recommended specifications at upload as well.

I’m looking forward to that, because currently it’s hard to find the icons we use over and over again, especially if we don’t know their names.

How about

  • A third tab that is automatically filled with frequently used icons from standard and custom icon collections

  • Or a third tab where favorite icons from standard and custom icon collections can be defined and deleted (could be called “Favorites”).

Seems the system isn’t a fan of capital letters or spaces.
