It allows to non-destructively apply center or right alignment on text columns. Unlike the right-aligned template solution, this doesn’t require the column to be a formula — you can apply the format onto an editable column and it will stay editable. And you can always revert it back to your original values by setting the column’s format back to the original one.
This format preserves most of the rich formatting. Unfortunately, it doesn’t preserve colors in text, neither it can preserve any controls. In those cases, the linked above hack is the only solution. Yet this is still a rather quick and elegant solution that works in most cases.
