Is there a way to put my root-level pages as navigation items across the top of my page?
I only have ~4-5 and currently using the collapsed/hover approach, but it’s getting kind of tedious

You might consider to create a published version of your doc, this is the way to get the navigation on top of your screen?
I think you will like it
