Suggestions for Improving Coda’s Documentation and Tutorials

Coda’s documentation needs significant improvement, particularly in the following areas:

  1. Consistent Terminology – Current documentation mixes old terminology from earlier releases with new terminology. It should always reflect the latest release to avoid confusion.

  2. Better Version History & Release Notes – Clear version tracking would help users understand terminology changes and feature updates.

  3. Up-to-Date Instructional Videos – Outdated videos, especially on YouTube, should be deleted and replaced, not just left online.

  4. Improved Video Formatting –

Presenters should speak at a moderate pace.

Screen images should be zoomed in for clarity, similar to PowerPoint.

Basic topics should be repeated for review and reinforcement.

Videos should follow a locked sequence so important features are learned first.

  1. Beginner-Friendly Learning Style – The instructional format should be similar to the Dummies books, which do not assume prior knowledge and build concepts step by step.

These improvements would make Coda’s resources clearer, more effective, and easier to follow for both new and experienced users.

Agreed. Many of the videos and guides feel more like short advertisements for features, rather than tutorials for people actually trying to learn.

Agree. The coda “tutorials” are very surface level and don’t teach much. I learned by watching videos by @Paul_Danyliuk , @Scott_Collier-Weir , and others which walked you through making documents.

Coda should take a note from the company Webflow. They have excellent tutorials that show you how to make something from the ground up.

Have you tried /learn in your doc?

It will take you to a structured overview of the resources available to learn Coda. It is up to each user to decide where they want to focus their learning - doc presentation, formula language, tables and table structure, AI, packs, etc.

Coda covers a very large area of options, it is not possible to set up a one-size-fits-all training solution.

Yes, I’m specifically talking about how surface-level those resource are
