Anyone know how to remove a "view only" doc from the docs list?

Once again, I have fallen for the “view my example doc” which is now (regrettably) forever part of my document list which I cannot delete. It states only the owner can remove.
Does anyone know how to remove these type of documents from your list? These do not show up in your Google Drive as an option to remove.
