I’m developing an ERP to manage manufacturing in a small factory. I’ve already managed to centralize orders in Coda using Make, which makes organization much easier.
Now, I want to implement an automated tracking system for our six production stages, as we’re currently handling hundreds of orders manually, which is very time-consuming. My idea is to use barcodes so that, by scanning them at each stage, the order status updates automatically. This would also allow us to share the status with customers, improving our service.
My main challenge is finding a system that enables automatic barcode generation and scanning, updating each order in real-time. Has anyone worked with something similar? I’ve seen an app that creates a QR with a URL link, but I don’t think that fits my needs…
Thank you very much.
I saw this post before, but it can be a reader os barcodes and only with android. My idea is to make it more “profesional” with a barcode reader, and buy 6 of them, 1 per process.
I saw one post of @Pch talking about exactly what im looking for aplicated to plants. I tried to find a solution that someone did before, but I didn’t find it.
I have build something like that (test project) and we succeeded with USB barcode readers attached to (windows) laptops. You need to play with the reader settings so that an “enter” is included with each read, but that works fine. It is also nice you can create your own barcodes in coda (with the barcode pack).
We did not succeed with wireless barcode readers - and I never found out why. At some point we gave up trying, so perhaps it is possible, but for us it did not work.
I have also used tasker with the mobile phone camera and a webhook, but we were not happy with the performance - our project required scanning from 10 to 300 (or more) barcodes in quick succession (like in 10 minutes or less) and tasker was not the right tool for that.
For a lot of applications it would be nicer to scan a barcode with your mobile from within Coda and have Coda translate the barcode to a alphanumerical value. I think that can be done with a pack - maybe you don’t even need a barcode but use OCR (or AI) to translate any alphanumerical value in a picture to text, but I didn’t have the time to get to that point.
I realize all of this doesn’t help much, but just wanted to share our experience with you.
Greetings,
Joost
