Hello everyone! There are several similar topics, but the wanted results are different enough they confused me
I have a Synced Crew list containing all my available crew, with a field for Name and a field for Eligible Position.
I am pulling this in as a linked relation to a second table. What I want is the names in the selection list to ONLY be those that have matching Positions.
I’m sure it will be another thing where I yell “AHHH IT WAS THAT EASY?!?” once someone ponts it out
hi,
Simply select the parameters and the filter. Normally, Coda will recognize and suggest the appropriate filters. If not, use a formula.
If I was filtering for a specific role, no problem. So a formula is needed I assume. My brain just doesn’t work in formula mode very well lol.
if you share a (dummy) doc, we can show you how it is done.
This is my “marketing” example setup so here you go

Hello Shannon,
Make both columns (crew list and position) relational and filter the crew list column:

Greetings,
Joost
OK I think I see my problem - I keep looking at the base filter options as being what I can do, and NOT thinking in terms of going right to formulas. The base filter only allowed to filter by specific jobs, not use the whole category. I’m putting a big sticky note on my desk to stop thinking that way!!
My brain doesn’t think that way, but at least now I will try to always go to the formulas pages before asking the silly questions! Thank you so much!
OK!! So that bit COULD do what I want - but I have another bit of weirdness. Hopefully I can make this make sense:
-
The page in question is Crew Schedule; the table is Crew Schedule Overview
-
Records/lines on this table can be populated manually, or using the buttons “Set Template Standard Crew” or “Set Template Alt Crew” on the PC/PM Specific page. They have formulas that are pulling lists from the “Crew Up Template” page - which references fields from the “Credits/Position” page.
The problem: I need the populated column on Crew Schedule Overview to be a relation of the Credits/Position field that is the original reference, NOT the secondary field that is used in the button formulas. (because of the further use of related fields) But I finally got those formulas DOING the right thing and any attempt I’ve made to reference the original field just breaks it again.
I realize that the things I keep attempting are much more advanced than a new Coda user should be trying, but I just keep seeing the POSSIBILITIES!!
Changed your column to a working filtered relational column. It is not the ultimate solution, but without rebuilding the base tables and all the references to them, it’s the best I can do for now.
This will do the trick for now! I super appreciate your time. As I learn I will likely rip it apart and rebuild it better at a later date lol, I think my AirTable system was rebuilt 3 times over the years I was there lol.
SO MUCH TO LEARN!! So exciting!
