How to turn a table into a template?

Hi all,

So I’ve been using Coda for over 6 years, and just realized something: Why haven’t I created templates for tables?

99% of what I do is data work, and I constantly create tables that almost always start the same:

Create table > Create column > Change type to properties “Row id” > Create column > Change type to date > Format date as “Jul 23 2025”

It’s a small flow on it’s own, but at least takes me 40 seconds each time.

So I was wondering: How do I create template tables?

I found ways to create template docs, but couldn’t find anything for tables. Even though if you / and then scroll down in the popup menu, there is a section that displays “Template Tables”.

Ideally, I’d love to just create a template table > Call it “Simple Table” > Then / anywhere in a doc and type “Simple table” to add it.

You create a new template and copy this table to that one. A table isn’t a template as a template can contain many thing inside it.

Yes, the question was: “How to turn a table into a template”; not “How to copy a table from a template doc into a doc”.

I am aware of docs as templates, but that wasn’t the question
