I’m thrilled to be part of this vibrant community and I must say, Coda has truly impressed me with its versatility.
Now, I’d like to share a project idea and seek your guidance. I’m looking to create a self-reflection diary where I can answer a set of custom questions one at a time. I envision storing these responses in a table with columns for date, question, feedback, and answers. Could you advise me on how to structure this document effectively?
Here are my questions:
Is there an existing block or feature in Coda that can display a question along with its category, feedback, and an input widget for my response?
What’s the optimal way to structure these questions – in a table format or as a toggle list?
How can I schedule certain questions to appear daily at specific times, while others appear daily at random times? Additionally, how can I set some questions to appear on random days and times within a set timeframe?
Do you think this project might be too complex to achieve in Coda? If so, I’d appreciate any suggestions or workarounds you might have.
Thank you for taking the time to assist me with this endeavor. I eagerly await your insights and recommendations.
Alex
For those who are interested, I’ll make this doc publicly available.
What you are looking to do is very possible in Coda.
I am working on something similar as part of a bigger document I am building. The infomration is on a page called “Design Your Life”, with several sub-pages
Here is the work in process, for some ideas:
It allows for a daily journal page. In that page is a table with daily entries. The canvas column of that row (Detailed Thoughts) has a template with topics for looking back, looking forward and a habit tracker.) The looking back topic will provide you with 2 gratitude questions, randomly selected from an (editable) table of about 150 questions.
It also includes pages to cover your “identities”. The experts say that one should not learn new habits, but build new identities. More on the theory from the experts in the Design Your Life Background info page. I have notes from a few books there, as well as several books I still need to make notes from.
The idea behind this functionality is to provide a single place for your “self-improvement” topics. I (we) are always seeing wonderful new books and articles, but the forget about it as soon as we find the next greatest book. With tis approach you can record, synthesize and implement the best ideas.
Thank you very much for your help. I will take a look at the document you created. It’s wonderful to see that someone has thought about a similar project. I’ll get back to you if I have any questions or suggestions. Until then, good luck! Great closing sentence.
I’ve looked through the provided document, and I really liked it. However, I’ve decided to create something personalized, but I’m still facing some situations.
I’d like to create a formula that selects a random row from a table named Questions and displays it in the VIEW Question table. The Questions table contains the following columns: Category (text), Questions (text), Number (index row number), and I’d like a random row selected containing only the Category and Questions columns. I’d like the randomization to be based on a condition, specifically on a randomly selected time within a time interval.
