Leading zeros not showing when entering numbers in text columns

In a text column of a table, when I add a number, the value is displayed as number type. Leading zeros are not shown.

@Shaina_Torgerson , could you please take a look. This is urgent for me.

not sure if its suitable for your use case or temp fix for now (if or when coda fixes issue) but changing column type to canvas and then toggling on “Display editable preview” will display the zeros before the digit.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Thank your help , @Melanie_Teh.
I’ve been using too many workarounds. I just can’t understand why Coda can’t fix bugs. Let me list another two of them that have been around for a while.

heard @Breno_Nunes and wholeheartedly agree.

the changing/auto of text column is a known problem and quite critical in some cases for workflow execution without disruption.

now that the merger is done and dusted, hopefully they revert back to their “quality of life” hackathons (usually in Jan i think which we missed this year cos of merger) and this issue gets picked up by a codan/grammarlian

I have only recently started to have this issue.
Last week, I was able to store numbers as strings (Such as for area codes, zip codes, serial numbers etc) with the leading zeros.
This week I have just started to have this issue where all of my columns with leading zeros have been reformatted to be missing their leading zeros.

This needs to be fixed immediately as I have been storing thousands of data points that require their leading zeros which have all now disappeared.

Text fields NEED to be true string fields. Not formatted to how they think it should look. If I wanted it as a number, I would have specified it as so.

Many thanks for raising this—we’re working on fix, so your leading or trailing zeros don’t have issues.

I’ll respond back once we’ve made the update.

:waving_hand:t5: @Breno_Nunes and @Lin_Silver, we’ve made an update that should fix this issue, so you can see the leading zeroes as before.

Please let us know if that’s not the case, we’re happy to dig in more.

Additionally, we’ve also released an update to provide more number format options—you can read more about it here!

Thank you very much @Ayuba_Audu.
I’d be great if you could tackle the constantly changing column text type bug next.

Thank you so much, very appreciated!
