Hi, Coda team! Are you joining the sanctions against Russia, or is it safe to use your service for clients based in Russia, or Russian citizens but living in other countries?
Recent policy updates at Notion (This involves completely deleting accounts and workspaces) have triggered a mass exodus of Russian users to other services, mainly to the OpenSource or local ones.
What is the development team’s vision on this problem
Will there be an official response?
I sincerely hope that the Coda team will make the right, environmentally friendly decision, as they have always been known for common sense and special treatment of users, don’t be like Notion

In cases like this, I always wonder what the “right” decision is. Does anyone actually know? And how would such a decision impact the environment? Color me puzzled.
Is this an optional sanction? I thought sanctions were enforced, not chosen.

Is special military operation a common sense and environmentally friendly decision?

At last, a feature Coda should copy from Notion!

Why are you trying to use the words ‘friendly decision’ by the user Evgenii_M as a political accusation? Did he express his political opinion or somehow unequivocally present himself as a direct culprit and participant in these events? Evgenii_M primarily asked a question as an ordinary user who is in a country under sanctions. The only nuance is that at some point he found himself in a less favorable situation compared to, for example, you in relation to using the application and is now simply trying to figure things out. Therefore, your remark with political connotations is at least inappropriate, as are all other attempts by other participants to impose a political context on the messages of users who, in someone’s opinion, ‘ended up on the wrong side’ and just want to continue using their favorite application. First and foremost, we are all here as people with common interests, and any one of us can find ourselves in an unpleasant situation. Therefore, I urge you to understand and show mutual respect. None of you has become better or superior to others just because you have an alternative opinion about users who are actually not guilty of anything.

Your sarcastic comment might have seemed very witty to you. However, the nuance is that sanctions are primarily a state measure, not a unique function of each individual platform, to which platforms must comply. And the fact that you might have found some relief in the company Notion also being forced to comply with the requirements of the 14th sanctions package of the European Union doesn’t make you a part of something greater, other than expressing your personal resentment towards those who are not responsible for it.
Thanks for educating me on how sanctions work; I wouldn’t have figured Besides, what makes you think I ‘find relief’ or feel resentful towards anyone? If anything, I was worried for Coda, the product I love and advocate for, to not get struck with fines because of failing to comply.
Anyway, the answer’s in the email already.
And yeah, that comment was witty.

An interesting opinion, but controversial.
I agree, this forum is not the place for such discussions.
“And yeah, that comment was witty.” – These very words, as an admission of your toxicity, do not require an explanation of my point that you find solace in your passive aggression towards ordinary users, which you so hypocritically call ‘being worried about Coda’.
So, up until now, you had no issue making your political remark, and suddenly you realized that this isn’t the place for such discussions? How convenient.
Going to close this topic as it’s becoming an argument.
To recap: In order to comply with heightened trade sanctions and other restrictions on Russia and Belarus, availability of Coda in Russia and Belarus will cease on September 12, 2024.
