Hey folks,
I was working with a customer on a common use case: Tasks and Subtasks. It’s easy to do using lookups and formulas.
I recorded a quick video walking through it. Hope it’s helpful!

Nice demo. Real straightforward. This would be great template in their system.
Great video! I like how you started with a template, that saved a lot of time.
Instead of adding setting Task Name to thisRow.Task
wouldn’t you want to set call the column Task Name
something like Task
and then just pass in thisRow
, that way you could reference the attributes of the task.
Also, it might be nice if the Add Task
button automatically opened a layout so that you could modify the owner, Name of the task, and Assignee. For those that don’t know, you can do this with the Activate
formula.
Thanks so much for your walkthrough on how you’re implementing sub-tasks.
I’m slowly introducing my company to Coda and I started out with a Projects / Tasks list, to help one of my team members simply their tasks when we hold team status meetings.
I’ve implemented Projects with associated “Project Plans” (you define what activities and resource you feel are required to accomplish the project) and multiple tasks related to each project.
My team member would like to see sub-tasks that can be reordered (do task #2 before task #1 etc.)
I’m hoping Coda eventually implements sub tasks in a way similar to what Notion has recently added, to simplify the wiring!
Hello everyone,
I’m also trying to build a better task manager with lost of features.
Anyone want to collaborate?
Sure
I just sent you a message.
Sincerely
Jannis
this video is not working for me. I’m in the latest edge browser. It looks like it is playing like a gif.
Hi @Tisha_Lane,
the video doesn’t work for me either. I think it was deleted or is not available anymore. The URL contains an “expired” parameter.
He sadly was last seen on Oct 8, 2021, so @ him won’t make a difference.
Sincerely
Jannis
I’m trying to figure out how it was done here. Subtasks should not be this difficult. Maybe I am missing where Coda explains it clearly.
