It’s strange that this new look doesn’t work with any Quick Styles other than one and two column styles.
I thought for a moment that they can go full-width now. That would have been interesting!
Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for the quick feedback, and apologies for any disruption to workflows this visual update may’ve caused. I recognize communication on this was a little clunky, for which you can blame a PMM who was stretched a little thin on a Friday (me). A few quick clarifying notes:
- First, regarding this update as a whole: As you might recall from our Series D Announcement, we’re working to bring the power of your page canvases into tables themselves. This update is a stepwise change as part of our progress on enabling page features within rows themselves; we expect that that bigger change will give you some of the flexibility it sounds like some folks feel we’ve compromised. There will be further updates to the detail view, with a goal of making the full page-in-a-row concept available to all Coda users by the end of the year (I’m bullish that we’ll get it done quite a bit before the very end of the year)
- Next – Block Party! Our event registration page is indeed up, but tickets will not be available until 12:01am Pacific time on Monday, August 23. All tickets are free (with a limited number that come with a free swag package!), so please be sure to grab yours when they go live on the Hopin platform where we’ll host the event.
As always, please keep the feedback coming. It’s incredibly helpful as we continue our work to put more flexibility into the pages and tables you build to get the most from Coda.
It would be great to have an option for text columns to make them “Long-text”, so that we don’t need to type shift-enter to create a new line! It would especially be usefull in detail views so that the row is more usable as a page, and it’s easier to create bullet points and more!
Hey Lars,
If you’re referring to images, they in fact can (and should) go to full width with the new option we’ve added in the “Edit Layout” menu.
Is the cover image only working on the Default layout? Because I can’t make it work in other saved layouts.
- I am using the first quick style.
- I click on the “add cover” button.
- I wait until the new column image is created and the default cover image is uploaded.
- No image appears as cover image.
My guess is that when you’re clicking “Add Cover”, its creating an image column with the image inside, but since your layout already existed, its moving it to the hidden section of your layout. If you go in to “Edit Layout” and move that image up to the top of your layout, it should become a cover photo.
I found thet problem. I should set the image column to Full Width. Now it’s working. Thanks!
+1 to this:
I use the detail view to take notes during calls, and having to “open up” the field in order to not need shift+enter every line is a small friction I wish didn’t exist. Also the rest of the fields disappear, so in order to refer back to info in those fields during the call, I need to close the text field view - another small friction that I fear makes me look distracted during the call.
If/once this canvas biz is rolled out, I’ll move all those text fields to the canvas, and this issue will be moot for this specific use case, but I’m sure I’ll still need long text fields for stuff I don’t want to keep in the canvas.
Despite glitches, I LOVVVVE this update.
I am experiencing the same problem too!
This was a very confusing update. To set your image as full width, you need to go in > edit layout > select your image column (remember, it only works with uploaded image) > turn on “full width”

We just pushed a fix to ensure that we toggle all these switches for you automatically when you click “Add Cover” so you can have the optionality to remove them later. Hopefully that helps!
I still can’t figure out how to use the same image to be put in the image header:
If i use the Image Column it works fine, but I can’t set the right formula to add the same image to the button that creates a new row in a table.
Usinge the Image Url column and the Image() formula doesn’t apply as a full wide image as in your example above.
Any suggestion @ezeugo ?
As I said, it only works with image upload column. It doesnt works in any other way.
So I gonna ask you for another bug fixes. This covers are looking really bad on mobile. Make sure they don’t show the label and look more like how pages cover look.
Are you looking for something similar to logic like this where the button adds the same image when a new row is created?
Are you referring to how they look by default or when the label is set?
Exactly this kind of use; so the idea is to upload the image in the first row in a column image and the use the first referring to the first row for any subsequent one?
